AUPQ: Writers, What Are You Thankful For?

A Path2pub Thanksgiving Special

Sarah Connor wants to know: With fall coming soon, and therefore thanksgiving, I imagined my question would fall around that time of the year and wanted to know: What are you ladies thankful for? And I started following Path2pub since it’s conception and it’s grown very much since then so I also would like to know: How it has impacted you ladies since you joined/began the site.

What a lovely and well-timed question, Sarah! This year, I’m thankful first and foremost for my family. It’s been a pretty hard year and really, starting the year, I’d thought that by now I’d be in a further point in my publication path. My family have been my absolute rock through this time with their support and encouragement in every aspect. I’m also thankful for the new friends I made this year! Last year, I didn’t know anyone in the writing community and that took the luster out of certain accomplishments as there was no writer friend to celebrate them with. This year I made friends (special S.O. to Maddie, Jennifer, and Jasmine, and of course, the Path2pub ladies!) that have made writing and the publication journey super exciting! In fact, one of the reasons behind Path2pub was because I hoped for that sense of belonging in the writing community and so I’m super thankful for the Path2pub gals. The best team with our joking and brainstorming and support of each other💙

For how Path2pub impacted me. Again, I had it tough this year when I had to start querying again. At some point, I wanted to just quit for a while. But running path2pub made quitting virtually impossible. To share valid information on the site, I had to be actively writing and working to get published. Sometimes, this was the sole thread that kept me from giving up for a while. Path2pub has definitely impacted me in many ways in that it made me more social and outgoing in the community and introduced me to an awesome team who have also been fantastic beta readers, but the fact that it’s kept me from quitting is the strongest impact it’s had on my journey 🙂

—Lucia, The Fantasy Writer!

So many things to be thankful for! This year I’m most thankful for family and good health, because coming through these past two pandemic years have been difficult (for everyone) and I’m super grateful that everyone I love is healthy and well. In the publishing and writing world, I’m thankful for an ever supportive community of writerly friends who have been on this journey with me from the beginning, and also two wonderful agents who have helped me get such a fantastic start to my writing career 🙂

Path2pub has been a wonderful experience and I’m super grateful to Lucia for coming up with this idea and inviting me to be a part of it! I’ve learned so much from all the Path2pub contributors and I’ve been so blessed to get to be a part of everyone’s journeys. I love that we’re all at different stages of the publishing journey so we have different experiences to offer, and I hope that everything we’ve shared has been interesting and helpful to all our readers so far! Thank you for supporting Path2pub!

Amber, YA/NA SFF!

First of all, I want to say I loved this question and I enjoyed reading Lucia’s and Amber’s answers. I share many of their feelings too. Actually, at home, every November we have a Thankful Pumpkin tradition. We buy a decorative pumpkin and with a Sharpie each member of our family writes down what we are thankful for at the end of each day. Once the month is over, we put the pumpkin away and decorate the house with it the next Fall. It’s been nice to read what we’ve been thankful for in past years. Most of the times, the things repeat from one year to another. It’s truly a special keepsake.

Like every year, I’m really thankful for my husband, my children and my doggie. I’m also grateful for my extended family and caring friends. I’m so glad that we are healthy and that we’ve received many blessings on 2022: new friends, trips to new places, seeing my mom, getting to spend time with uncles and cousins who I haven’t seen in a long time, books read, happy moments with friends, delicious meals enjoyed, new experiences, and mostly the sense of life getting back to normal after the pandemic.

Regarding my writing life, I’m thankful that my picture book is finally out in the world. It’s been a real dream come true! 🦖 2022 will definitely be a year to remember. I’ve also been blessed with wonderful critique partners and writer friends who’ve been very supportive and have shared the journey to publication with me (including our Path2pub readers -thank you! 🥰). Thankful also for my agent and the writing community for their constant support and encouragement with new stories. I can only hope I’m also adding to the life’s of others as much as they’ve added to mine. As for Path2Pub it’s been a real treat to be part of this team in such a special year for my writing career. I’m very happy to know this wonderful group of talented ladies, and I’m truly honored to be part of this project and to see how far it’s come. Thanks for going down this path to pub with me. Cheers! 🥂

-Mariana, PB Writer!

I’m most thankful for health and being surrounded by my loved ones. These past 2 years, I learned to really focus on life and where I want to be in 5 years. I am grateful for writing in so many levels because it was my escape and I was able to meet so many lovely people through the hardships of publishing.

I’m so grateful to be one of the Path2pub contributors! Having an immense support and couldn’t be prouder of being part of this blog. 🙂

-Alex, Romance Writer

First of all, I’m thankful that I’m finally able to figure out what I want to do in life. The past few years have been difficult and hard for me for so many reasons but I am finally starting to get answers for some things. I’m also glad that I found my passion for writing again. I’m hopeful that next year I finally get some good news with my writing journey.

As for this team, it has been wonderful getting to know everyone. I also love interacting with our readers in the comments of our posts. I can’t believe the site is almost one. Thank you all for joining us too.

Briana, The Mystery Writer

I’ve enjoyed your themes and recounts of your personal experiences in the industry, I appreciate the Roadside Cafes, it has enlightened me more than before. This year I’m thankful for friends and family too and for them being the best support system a girl could have 😊

  5. This post brought a tear to my eye. Wow it’s almost been one year of path2pub already, last year really flew by. And yet you ladies have come a ways in your paths from when you first started. It’s so inspiring.
This thanksgiving I’m grateful for life. Around the world it was a scary year with Wars starting and floods and fires. Really it was so wild! And heartbreaking. But I’m grateful that myself and everyone of my family is standing as the year comes to an end. For me, there’s no greater gift 🙂
